"It is hard to ask for help, but when you receive it, there is
such a burden lifted off your shoulders. You are then allowed
to focus on more important things." --parent, recipient of
assistance from Heroes for Children
Heroes for Children is committed to
serving Texas families in their time of need during a childhood
cancer diagnosis. Each story we receive for assistance is unique
and worthy of our help.
Below are some recent examples of
funding in 2007:
-
Turned utilities back on within
a less than three hours for a family whose utilities were shut
off. The six year old cancer patient required a machine
for breathing treatments and could not be without electricity.
-
Covered repair expenses for a
single mother to have her transmissions fixed to ensure she was
able to travel from Laredo to San Antonio for chemotherapy.
-
Assisted towards funeral
expenses for more than forty children who lost their lives to
their cancer treatment.
-
Helped purchase a prosthetic
eye for a two year old patient with Retinoblastoma.
-
Paid flights to help a family
travel to Vermont for experimental cancer treatment of their
four year old daughter battling Neuroblastoma after a transplant
and subsequent relapse.
-
Financed two weeks worth of
housing for a single mom and three year old daughter after their
stay at the Ronald McDonald house had expired and they needed
housing to remain in Forth Worth for treatment.
-
Assisted with relocation costs
for a single father to move to Ft. Worth from Oklahoma for
cancer treatments at Cook Children's Hospital.
-
Paid two months mortgage for a
family of a four month old baby with a brain tumor. About
to face another surgery to resect the brain tumor, the parents
needed time off to care for the baby.

needs of a family raised by the grandparents with four children,
the youngest with leukemia.
